I grew up always having a pet in our family. From dogs to rabbits to cats. I grew to love all
animals. For the past almost 40 years i have put many pets down and it breaks my heart every
time. It NEVER gets easier. Pets are not just "pets" but, a family member. People who don't
understand that, are not real animal lovers.
Bailey's story is a little different for me. We only had him part time for about half a year, He
was a stray cat. He came and went when he wanted because, he was used to the outdoors and we
already had 4 indoor cats. Unfortunately the mornings and nights waiting for him to come and eat
are over,
We all got attached to this beautiful cat we name 'Bailey'. He was a great loving spirit that we
all grew to love VERY much. He was a VERY vocal cat. He had a lot to say.
The reason for this site is to pay tribute to him. He was a young cat only 3 years old. I knew
nothing about FIV. I researched it online. Cats can live a long life with FIV or, they can go
down hill quickly.
The guilt of putting him down ( is eating me up ). I personally didn't put him down a family
member did. The anger that i have and sorrow is hard to bare. We couldn't find a home that's
why the poor cat was put down. He was NOT sick yet just a small ear infection. Putting a
relatively healthy cat down is heartbreaking and there was NO reason for it.
I called organizations and emailed establishments that took FIV cats. There wasn't any openings
anywhere and half the people never got back to me. Some wanted an exuberant amounts of money
if they did have a place for him. Some up to $15,000!! I'm like are you kidding?? I just wanted
a beautiful place where Bailey can live the rest of his life. There wasn't one place i found!
My goal is to have a sanctuary one day for FIV cats. No cats would be turned away!! Or start up
a pet adoption for FIV cats. There has to people out there that want to adopt a FIV cats. There
is NO REASON to put a cat down because, there is no place for them!
Something MUST change!
